Uh Oh, Spaghetti-Os: Spotting Toxic Patterns in Your Relationships (Casually, of Course)

Writer: Anan RiveraAnan Rivera

Let's face it, relationships aren't always sunshine and rainbows. But how do you know when a lil' squabble turns into a full-blown toxic stew?  Worry not, my friends, for we shall embark on a quest to identify those not-so-great patterns that might be lurking in your love life (or friendships!).

1. The Blame Game: It's Always Your Fault

We've all been there: you trip over the cat, knock over a vase, and suddenly it's WWIII. But in a healthy relationship, mistakes are shared (because, let's be real, sometimes the cat is just out to get you). If you constantly feel like you're on the apology train, it might be a sign of toxic one-upmanship.

2. The Green-Eyed Monster Lives Here

A little jealousy is normal, but if your partner explodes every time you talk to someone new, it's a red flag.  Healthy relationships are built on trust and security, not possessiveness.  If you can't even chat with your coworker without a meltdown, it's time to re-evaluate the dynamic.

3. Walking on Eggshells? Not Cute

Imagine constantly tiptoeing around your partner, afraid of setting them off.  Yeah, not exactly a recipe for coupledom bliss.  In a healthy relationship, you should feel comfortable expressing yourself freely, weird jokes and all.

4. MIA: Support System?

Healthy relationships encourage you to grow and be your best self. But if your partner constantly puts down your dreams or isolates you from your friends and family, that's a major yikes.

5. "Because I Said So!"  Insert Bossy Music Here

Healthy relationships are partnerships, not dictatorships. If your partner is constantly controlling your every move, it's a sign of a power imbalance.  You deserve someone who respects your boundaries and wants what's best for you.

Remember, you deserve a relationship that lifts you up, not weighs you down!  If you spot any of these patterns, it might be time to have an honest conversation (or, you know, politely excuse yourself from the situation).
